Sad News.....and More Sad News

Henry has gone to the bridge - November 2009

Once again we have heavy hearts as we say goodbye to another beloved Doberman. Henry, Virginia's service dog and rescued Doberdude, has gone to the bridge to be with Bindi. More will follow on Henry's story and how one velco red-n-rust Doberman came to mean so much to both the founder of Prayers N Paws and to the Webmaster.

Be at peace sweet boy. Keep those that passed company until we meet again.

Bindi has gone to the bridge - October 2009

It is with an extremely heavy heart that we bring an update. One our our adoptive families, The Guessfords of North Carolina, lost their beloved Dober-child at the age of three. Bindi passed away at the Guessford's home Friday morning October 23, 2009.

Bindi had been diagnosed with cancer just this month. Words cannot describe the sense of loss that one feels after losing a beloved family member. We send condolences to the Guessfords.

In an email we received from Bev she expresses their sense of loss and love for the both Bindi and Dobermans in general:

She was a very special dobe and we will be lost without her. Thank you so much for bringing her into our life. We only had her three short years but they were the best three years with any pet we ever had. We loved her unconditionally and she knew that. There will be a void in our life for a long time but maybe one day we will get another one. It's so hard parting with them. People don't really realize how good of a dog dobermans are. I've had two and both of them have been the best dogs ever.

Thank you for being a great family for Bindi and the deep love that you gave her proves that rescued dogs and those that others throw away have hope.

Prayers and Paws has stopped intakes

The economy is hitting everyone including our canines. We, at this time, cannot take any new canines in. Last year adoptions were down as many that we took in have special needs and some became sanctuary Dobes with special medical needs that are draining to a rescue. Still we will be there for these special ones as they have been left down by humans before and we want them to know they are loved and safe and have a home no matter how long they need it. With each sanctuary dog we take in is one that we can not rescue and rehome which make your donations even more important than ever. Our main revenue source is adoption fees and, of course, donations.

If you can help us please use the PayPal buttons or click our Donate page to mail us a check or money order. We will care for the existing dobes (including returns we have received due to the economy) that are in our care.

Economic hit

Our donations are down and we are not taking new intakes at this point. When funds are tights for everyone our donations go down as well. Sadly, the need increases and there are folks turning in their Dobes at shelters as they cannot feed them or afford their care and we have to turn them away. If you can spare anything we will appreciate anything you can give.
